Michael is broadly interested in organelle biogenesis and maintenance in health and disease, and currently studies how proteins are imported into peroxisomes in the lab of Tom A. Rapoport. He obtained his doctoral degree from Washington University in St. Louis under the guidance of Phyllis I. Hanson, where he discovered a membrane repair pathway on endosomes and lysosomes. He enjoys hiking, cross-country cycling, and just being outdoors.

As Chair of the HMPA, Michael leads a team of dedicated and passionate individuals, who together seek to foster a diverse and inclusive environment for postdocs at Harvard that promotes research excellence and mental well-being, and to provide a united voice for postdocs' shared interests and concerns.
