Bio- Assaf Rotem:

Assaf Rotem is Head of R&D at Transition Bio, a private-funded early-stage biotechnology company founded by David Weitz (Harvard U) and Tuomas Knowles (Cambridge U) in 2020. Transition Bio is a drug discovery company based on droplet microfluidics and machine learning. Prior to his position at Transition Bio he was director of platform technology at Cogen Therapeutics, a Flagship startup pioneering molecular immunology. Assaf received his Ph.D. in Physics at The Weizmann Institute of Science in 2008, where he conducted research with Elisha Moses on magnetic stimulation of neurons and neuronal devices. He then became a research fellow in the Weitz group at Harvard University, where he has developed microfluidic-based techniques to use micron size drops as compartments for performing biological assays at small scale and at high throughput. This effort has broadened to a nationwide collaborative project exploring how viruses evolve in micro-environments to better understand the emergence of epidemics. In addition, he has developed a method for measuring the molecular state of single cells by genetically labeling each cell in a micron size compartment and then sequencing the contents of many compartments in parallel, pioneering the basis for 10xGenomics technology.
