Boston Postdoctoral Association Volunteering

June 8, 2021

Hi Boston postdocs,

We have some exciting news we’d like to share, and we’d also like to catch you up on some recent developments and upcoming events for postdocs in the Boston region.

- Firstly, the Slack space we started to keep in touch and communicate rapidly with postdocs has grown to over 600 Boston postdocs, and we invite every Boston postdoc to join us: https://join.slack.com/t/bostonpostdocs/shared_invite/zt-lb6fp6nl-vGOz5dhVaTlgG7h8QulOUQ
We've got channels for discussion of different Boston postdoc interests and events, as well as channels for each institution, and we'd love to get your input.

- We have some openings for volunteers across our committees and positions, including Advocacy, Career Development, Social, and Public Relations/Communications committees, as well as Board and Officer positions. This is a great time to get involved, and to meet a group of incredible volunteers that I've been grateful to be able to work with in my time here, as well as to get some valuable leadership experience. You can get in touch with us at bostonpostdoctoralassociation@gmail.com.

- Previously, we surveyed Boston postdocs in the largest regional assessment to date. We're extremely grateful for the input you provided, and are proud to say that a preliminary assessment of the survey results is available (with more discussion to come). These results paint a clear picture of Boston postdoc well-being and issues, as well as directions for future advocacy efforts. You can see a presentation of the results here, from the recent National Postdoc Association meeting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_jpyjr8GzA .

- Finally, we're looking to make some upgrades and changes to our website, bostonpostdocs.org, so if you know someone that might be a good fit for a short-term hire, please let us know!

The last few years have been difficult for a number of reasons, and it's been challenging to maintain our connection to postdocs across institutes and the purposes of our organization, but I'm happy to say that with the hard work of dedicated volunteers we're emerging stronger and more independent than we've ever been. We're looking forward to seeing you all again and continuing to support the well-being of postdocs across Boston. Thanks again for being part of our community!
